Carter vs. Formula

Well Carter won that battle. I, who am tired of pumping breastmilk six times a day and worried about how to fit all those pumpings in when I went back to work, decided to try and start supplementing with one, just one little eensie teensie bottle of formula a day. I followed the rules and gave him just one ounce at every feeding mixed in with regular breastmilk. The first week went ok, so I boldly tried to up it to 2oz. per feeding. A week went by and then the problems started. Carter began to produce a large amount of mucus and was gassy the whole day and he couldn't sleep due to his upset stomach. I took a break for a few days from formula and then decided to try one more time just to make sure that the formula was the culprit. Well, it was unfortunately. Last night Carter did not get to bed until 11 due to his stomach pains. He is having trouble napping today. In desperation I have even tried to nurse him with a nipple shield again. I had one successful attempt and I started to dream about returning this expensive hospital grade breast pump to the store I'm renting it from, but unfortunately, the next times I tried it he fought me tooth and nail. At least in a few weeks he starts solids so I can start cutting back little by little.
Please join me in my prayer that Carter learns to eat solid foods more easily than he learned to breastfeed.

I had to start giving Luke mylacon when he was 3 days old! Babies and gas seem to go together. Everything will work out, just trust your motherly instincts.
