Unfortunately, later that evening Carter got sick and threw up all over himself and his bed.
As I was trying to bathe him he continued to throw up two more times. This was not your garden variety spit up either. I slept with him on the couch and we were doing well until 3 am when he woke up crying. I gave him 2 oz. of milk and he threw that up. I didn't think that the rice cereal we fed him was the cause because he has had rice cereal from a bottle before. So I got out one of my trusty books and began to read the section about projectile vomit. I got worried when I read that the vomit could be a sign of head injury becuase earlier that day he had been practicing sitting up on his mat, and he fell back and hit his head with a thud. So this morning I started pedialyte and called the doctor who told us to go to the emergency room to get checked out. We weren't really too concerned at that point becuase he seemed like he was in really good spirits, just hungry. The doctors at the emergency room told us that he probably had a viral stomach bug. So now we are just trying to keep him hydrated. He has been taking milk in small doses and has only spit up little quantities. He has had diarrhea for the first time, however. I'm glad that that happened while we were at the hospital becuase I would have freaked out if I had seen that at home. No fever yet, which is good.

wow! I just read your blog! How is he doing now??? I love your first feeding pictures. I don't have any of Casey.
It sounds like he is better...have you given it another try? At 6 months old, you could probably just get started on first foods. The Gerber applesauce is very mild. I buy Gerber and Beechnut.
Please keep me posted!!!! I hope he is feeling much better!
Actually I tried the rice cereal again last Wednesday and the exact same thing happened- projectile again! I don't really understand it becuase he had rice cereal in his bottle when he was three months old for like a week and never had any symptoms. I go to the Dr. again on Tuesday and we'll see if she recommends trying the rice again or something else.
